The Assignment
The International Essex Jamboree 2024, Europe’s largest joint Scouting and Girlguiding event,
returned to a 150-acre site near Chelmsford from 27 July to 3 August. With over 8,000 Scouts and
Guides aged 10–18 from more than 40 countries spread across 87 marquees and 14,500 m² of
tentage, organisers needed absolute assurance of uninterrupted power for catering kitchens,
sanitation pumps, lighting rigs, the main stage PA and safety communications, around the clock. . As
it takes place every four years, it’s highly anticipated and with each successful event that passes,
expectations grow for the next one. From Australia to Libya, Jamaica to Scotland, young people from
all corners of the world spend a week in the Essex countryside having fun and gaining valuable skills.
Templant was contracted to deliver a turnkey, fully redundant temporary power solution that would
seamlessly scale across 24 distinct activity zones, comply with acoustic and environmental
regulations, and provide real-time monitoring and rapid onsite support throughout the eight-day
programme.
The Plan
Beginning with a detailed pre-site survey on 15 July we devised a configuration of 64 generators
(60–500 kVA) each with its own fuel tank for a minimum 72-hour runtime. A total of 1,770 distribution
units and cabling were deployed to each marquee, workshop and communal area. All equipment
underwent a pre inspection at our depot.
The Result
When the Jamboree opened, every generator started flawlessly and maintained continuous power,
even through overnight and peak-demand workshops, without a single interruption. Our live
load-sharing system allowed organisers to dynamically shift capacity between closed activity zones,
all with zero downtime. Catering kitchens, medical tents, sanitation pumps and the main stage PA ran
smoothly 24/7, ensuring participant safety and satisfaction. The Jamboree chiefs and their team’s
number one priority is that the children are happy and safe twenty-four hours a day – and we’re really
proud to be able to help them achieve that.
