Case Study: The Royal International Horse Show

One of the highlights in the equestrian calendar is the world famous Royal International Horse Show held at Hickstead showground, whose patron is Her Majesty the Queen. Being an international event, riders from across the globe are attracted for six days of competition, including the world’s leading show jumpers competing against each other in the FEI Nations Cup.

Templant are honoured to be involved in such a prestigious event, and for the fourth year have been the sponsor for the Queen Elizabeth II cup. The Queen Elizabeth II Cup was original a women’s only event but was opened in recent years to a national competition for both men and women.

As sponsors of the Queen Elizabeth II Cup, Templant are able to offer something back to the exceptionally talented riders, trainers and horses. This support is vital to the development and continuous improvement for British Show jumping.

As well as being a sponsor, Templant are also the Official Supplier of Temporary Power to Hickstead showground. Having been supplying power for all their events for over 5years, Templant are able to work simultaneously with hickstead to cater for the ever expanding requirements. Templant supply the power to the whole showground, which is spread across hundreds of acres in the rural Sussex country side. Power requirements included 25 event specialist generators, ranging from 50kva to 350kva twin sets, electrical distribution and cabling throughout the showground supplying trade stands, media offices, temporary accommodation, hospitality, exhibition tents and broadcasting offices. As Sky Television were filming throughout the event, power was a paramount resource and back up options were put in place to cover every eventuality. Due this being a 24hr site, temporary lighting solutions were also supplied and installed in walkways and the stabling areas for safety and security reasons.

Templant assigned a team of 10 personnel and engineers to carry out the installation which was achieved over the course of 5 days. All the equipment was delivered by utilising Templant’s own fleet of haib assisted vehicles and a telehandler on site for the ease of manoeuvring the generators and fuel tanks into position.

During the six days of competition, a Templant engineer was situated on site to ensure the smooth running of everything and offer immediate response should a technical issue arise. Fuel levels were also closely monitored throughout the show and regular top ups to external fuel tanks were carried out, which totalled to over 15,000litres of fuel being consumed across the six days of competition.

This year’s Royal International Horse Show was a huge susses and saw Trevor Breen ride to victory in the Templant Events Queen Elizabeth II Cup, the same combination which also won the Hickstead Derby a few weeks earlier. It was also a fantastic outing for the USA show jumping team who were victorious in the illustrious FEI Nations Cup.
